Commonly used cemented carbides are mainly composed of WC, and are divided into the following categories according to whether other carbides are added.

(1) Tungsten Cobalt (WC+Co) Cemented Carbide (YG)

The main component is tungsten carbide (WC) and binder cobalt (Co). The grade is composed of "YG" ("hard, cobalt" Hanyu Pinyin initials) and the percentage of average cobalt content. For example, YG8, means the average WCo = 8% and the rest is tungsten carbide carbide. It consists of WC and Co and has high bending strength toughness, good thermal conductivity, but poor heat resistance and wear resistance, mainly used for machining cast iron and non-ferrous metals. Fine grain YG type carbide (such as YG3X, YG6X), when the cobalt content is the same, its hardness and wear resistance is higher than YG3, YG6, strength and toughness is slightly worse, suitable for processing hard cast iron, austenitic stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, hard bronze, etc.

(2) Tungsten titanium cobalt (WC+TiC+Co) cemented carbide (YT)

The main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide (TiC) and cobalt. The grade is composed of "YT" ("hard, titanium" two words Hanyu Pinyin initial) and the average content of titanium carbide. For example, YT15 is a tungsten-titanium-cobalt carbide with an average WTi = 15% and the rest is tungsten carbide and cobalt. Since TiC has higher hardness and melting point than WC, it has increased hardness, wear resistance, red hardness, high bonding temperature, high oxidation resistance, and will generate TiO 2 at high temperature, which can reduce bonding compared with YG. However, the thermal conductivity is poor, and the bending strength is low, so it is suitable for processing steel and other tough materials.

(3) Tungsten-tantalum-cobalt (WC+TaC+Co) cemented carbide (YA)

Based on the YG type carbide, TaC(NbC) is added to improve the normal temperature, high temperature hardness and strength, thermal shock resistance and wear resistance, which can be used for processing cast iron and stainless steel.

(4) Tungsten, titanium, tantalum and cobalt (WC+TiC+TaC+Co) Cemented Carbide (YW)

The main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, tantalum carbide (or niobium carbide) and cobalt. This type of carbide is also called general-purpose carbide or universal carbide. The grade consists of "YW" ("hard" and "wan" in Hanyu Pinyin) plus a sequential number, such as YW1. ), which improves the bending strength, impact toughness, high temperature hardness, oxygen resistance and wear resistance. It can process steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals. Therefore, it is often called universal carbide (also called universal carbide). At present, it is mainly used for processing heat-resistant steel, high manganese steel, stainless steel and other difficult-to-machine materials.
